Apple Strudel

As I was having my usual cup of  tea,  sweet cravings came out of nowhere... Yeah, yeah, this wasn’t the first time of course, because I have a sweet tooth almost 24/7. I just like making the situation dramatic.
Well sometimes it can really get like that  and you don’t know whether to cook something ( but it would take time ) or to find quick little snacks like chocolate for example. This time I chose the first alternative, because you can prepare your daily dessert for a whole week and it doesn’t take too long to make either, so it‘s a win win situation.
I had some apples laying around and  I thought of APPLE STRUDEL right away. The last time I had apple strudel was about a year ago, so I listened to my body .. It came out soooo DELICIOUS that I demolished the half of the tray in just one day  (not guilty).

Today’s recipe is APPLE STRUDEL, perfect to feed your sweet tooth cravings and to fill your heart with joy.
Ingredients :
8 sheets of phyllo
90 gr of butter [ to make it vegan swap this with sunflower oil, or other oil of your choice ]
3 tbsp of brown sugar
1/4 cup of breading
4 apples ( 1 apple for a roll + adjust the other ingredient measurements | this recipe was made with 4 apples even though in the picture are just 3 | I should have made my mind before taking the picture 😛 = this happens when you have strong sugar cravings 🤷🏼‍♀️)
1/2 cup of sultanas
1 tbsp of cinnamon

Preparation :
Firstly peal the apples and remove their seeds. Then cut them into little cubes.

Put 30 gr of the butter to a heated pan and add the diced apples.
Sauté these for 2-3 minutes and add the sultanas in order to make them extra soft from the apple juice & butter.
Keep sautéing while avoiding them from sticking to the pan ( keep an eye on the heat !! you don’t want to burn them ).
After 7-8 minutes add the brown sugar & cinnamon (turn down the heat a bit) and continue stirring the mixture around for 3-5 minutes.
Add 2/3 of the breading to absorb all the flavors, turn off the heat and let it sit .

Meanwhile prepare the phyllo sheets + melt the rest of the butter. Butter the tray that you will bake these and preheat the oven to 200°C.

Take one sheet, drizzle a little bit of butter and add another sheet on top + drizzle of butter again . We need two sheets for a roll.
Sprinkle a little bit of the breading and place the filling following the length line of the sheet. Now roll while tucking in the edges.

Repeat for the other 3 rolls, lay them on the tray, make slight cuts ( to make it easier later to cut it on pieces ) and put them in the oven for 20-30 minutes or until they get golden brown.
Serve them with some powdered sugar + cinnamon and most importantly a cup of tea ☕️..

ENJOY !!
